Reading time ~2 minutes
iMazing allows you to save voicemail messages as audio files to your computer or an external drive. This guide explains how to back up and export your voicemail.
Before you begin
Always make sure you are running the latest iMazing version, to do so select Check for Updates from the iMazing menu, or just download the latest available version for your computer below.
Download and install iMazing
Step-by-step instructions
Launch iMazing on your computer
If you haven’t already, download and install iMazing. For more details please refer to our guide available for PC and for Mac.
Connect your device to your Mac or PC via USB
iMazing will prompt you to connect the device to your computer on the first time you're using it. To do so use a USB cable, and unlock the device using your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and follow the instructions for pairing.

Tip: For more details on connections and pairing refer to this guide.
Click on Devices in the left pane
From the Devices view you will see all the devices previously connected and paired to your computer. Click to select a device.

Tip
Once your device is connected and paired, you can access any dataset or tool directly in iMazing:
View the datasets you can access
iMazing will display the Overview screen for the selected device. From here you can access all available datasets for that device. The top row shows the most commonly used datasets, such as Messages, Photos, Music, and more. If you don't see the dataset you want, click the More button in the top row to see all available datasets for that device.

Tip: Altenatively, click on Data in the left pane to see every single dataset available for that device, including shortcuts to third party apps such as VLC and more.
Click on Voicemail
From there, you can view all your voicemail messages.
To see your most recent data, you may need to refresh. If this is your first time connecting your device, iMazing will prompt you to create a backup to retrieve your voicemail, this may take a while.

Export your voicemail
- Select the contact(s) whose voicemail you want to export. By default, iMazing will export all the voicemail from the selected contact(s). If you only want to export specific voicemail, select them now.
- In the bottom toolbar, click Export. This will open a save panel dialog box.
- In the dialog box, select where you want to export your files, then click Choose.
Tips:
- Use the CTRL/Command or SHIFT keys to select multiple contacts or voicemail.
- Double-click your voicemail to preview it.
Transcript column
iMazing's Voicemail view includes a Transcript column. It features transcriptions of the voice messages as done by iOS. However, transcription is only available if the voice of the person leaving the voicemail is clear and in the same language as your iPhone's. Transcripts availability also depends on your carrier.
Tip: Transcripts will often be too long to be displayed in iMazing, but they will be fully available if you use iMazing's export to Excel or CSV function.
Keep in mind
- Visual Voicemail is an an optional feature which enables viewing voicemail directly on your device, without dialling a mailbox. Not all carriers support Visual Voicemail: if your voicemail does not appear on your iPhone, please check this Apple Support article.
- If you want to transfer your voicemail to a new iPhone, you'll need to create a backup of the old phone, then restore that backup to the new iPhone.
- Voicemail audio files are in .amr format. If you are a Windows user, you will need Apple's Quicktime or VLC to play .amr files on your computer.
